TYGA GP 500 (Race Version)
April 2002
This project from TYGA is the NSR500 GP500 replica using some of our latest products. As well as a showcase, it illustrates how easy it is to transform a bike from something unloved, to the envy of all your biker friends.
Donor bike: This is an ex-racer MC21 SE bought at auction in Japan. The bike came with a few parts missing, but once cleaned and started up proved to be a very tight and fast SP spec race bike with race pipes, step kit, HRC wiring and jetting to suit. However, it was crying out for help!
Here you can see the mismatch of bodywork panels in the original state. The before shots were taken after we'd cleaned half an inch of grime off most surfaces!
The profile is radically altered with the TYGA bodywork and pipes.
Forks and wheels were left alone, but the TYGA GP fender gives the front end a whole new character. Lighting is not fitted in either state because the bike runs a race loom.
New bodywork fromTYGA includes race upper and lowers which were designed using Leon Haslam's 500 cowling rescued from Sepang's refuse cleaners. The cowlings were carefully modified to fit the NSR250, including use of side stand.
Tank is MC28, seat cowl is the GP500 tail cowl (This product has been superseded by product BPFT-9011) l which is like our TYGA tail but with no rear vent to give it an NSR500 look. Upper cowling uses a unique screen. Pipes are our new TYGA GP stainless steel system with carbon/kevlar silencers. Of course the step kit and carbonlook hugger are TYGA!.
