Here's what he wrote us on his project:
The bike was imported from Japan early 2018. After getting it through its MOT and registration process I then decided that I wanted something a little different from the norm. Having assembled a couple of specials in the past I knew the direction I wanted to take. I visited the Tyga Performance web site to see what goodies were available for the NSR250 and set about putting together a shopping list of parts.
I started with a set of Tyga GP pipes which I impulsively fitted to see what they looked like, as I suspected they looked amazing and sounded even better.
I then carried out a complete strip down of the bike. Each part was then either scrapped, replaced or Aqua blasted. The engine proved to be particularly expensive to refurbish. Unknown to me the bottom cylinder had thrown its top ring, destroying the barrel and cylinder head. The inner and outer clutch basket were also beyond repair. Luckily I managed to source OEM parts through Jap4 Performance and Japanese auction sites. The engine was reassembled after more Aqua blasting and minus the standard oil pump as I had decided to run the bike on pre-mix.
Prior to starting the project I had decided I wanted to keep the NSR’s quick steering geometry but needed a more modern fork set up. So I opted for CBR600rr forks and Tyga triple clamps. I intially fitted a set of 320mm Brembo discs with MT09 brake calipers, but later swapped the calipers for a set of GP4 brembo calipers which I had in my track day spares (over kill I know).
The reassembly tasks were growing smaller and smaller, it would soon be time to fit the Tyga GP-T body work and decide what paint scheme I was going to opt for. Fitting the Tyga body work was a pleasure, I’ve fitted plenty of aftermarket body work in my time but this was the first set I didn’t have to file, drill or otherwise bend into shape to fit. And the surface finish was excellent, very little prep for spraying required.
After many hours of web surfing I choose a colour scheme befitting the little Honda’s heritage, and opted for a Shell Advance paint scheme, the results were better than I could imagine.
The finished project has prompted lots of interest and comments, I would like to thank Gavin at Jap4 Performance for all the help and the Tyga parts he supplied during the build. The only things left on my shopping list are the Tyga 300cc big bore kit and carbon silencers, just need to convince the wife their essential!!!!!
